Artwork title : Self Merging

In "Self Merging", the deep crimson backdrop sets a dramatic emotional stage, while the intricate black lines that traverse the canvas embody the distinctive and most identifiable aspect of my artistic vocabulary.

These lines are far from mere decoration; instead, they fuse the dynamic brushstrokes and rhythmic flow of traditional Chinese ink painting and calligraphy—capturing the essence of the East’s spiritual resonance—with the imaginative impulse of Western surrealist imagery. They function as streams of subconsciousness, moving freely yet precisely through figurative forms, at times manifesting as fluid "flying white" brushstrokes reminiscent of calligraphic expression, at others twisting into grotesque yet compelling visual anatomies.

Integrating Eastern ink techniques with Western media, I deliberately retain spontaneity and the serendipitous quality of the brushwork, creating a unique linear style that transcends cultural boundaries and establishes a cross-cultural visual lexicon marked by distinctiveness and intrigue.

While the gestures within the painting reflect the tentative and fragmented nature of interpersonal relationships, the interwoven black lines symbolise psychological threads, articulating hidden tensions, anxieties, and desires within our internal landscapes. My artistic pursuit is not about rigid boundaries but rather their permeation and dissolution; I am fascinated by the infinite potential found between representation and abstraction.

Viewers are invited to inhabit this ambiguous space—between East and West, figuration and abstraction, finished and ongoing—discovering within uncertainty new aesthetic perceptions and emotional resonances.
