This artwork explores the multiple meanings that time acquires in sickness.

Time in sickness does not respond to the laws of physics. The person who is sick perceives neither days nor hours. What is experienced is a sort of liminal time that goes beyond any logic: minutes may become hours, and months may turn into years.

‘‘Here and now’’ becomes the rule to live by, with the objective to get to the end of the day and enjoy the last moments of one’s life. However, sometimes this intention is not easy to fulfil; time becomes distorted and feelings and emotions become the hands of the clock marking the hours. 

Time becomes an unwanted presence to live with, something to fight against: a cage in which the sick restlessly tries to find a purpose.

In this cage, the pressure on the mind is so intense that rational thought gradually gives way to an illusion devoid of any temporal reference.

It is here that time expands and becomes an imaginary construct.
